Terms and Conditions
Cancellations
If you need to cancel an appointment I do require that you give me at least 24 hours notice otherwise the session will still be charged for. If you wish to swap your appointment to another day or time I will try to accommodate this, however, if the time you require is not available this will be treated as a cancelled session.
Fees
I offer a free half hour assessment session, after that the fees are £40 per 50 minute session (or £35 for concessions). Payment is due at the end of each session by either cash or cheque. Receipts are available upon request.
Confidentiality
It is important that you feel that you can place trust in your counsellor and that the material that you bring to your sessions is confidential, however, I have legal and ethical obligations, which means that on occasion I may need to take the information shared with me further. This may arise if I am worried that you, or someone else, are at serious risk of harm, if I am concerned about a child protection or safe guarding issue, if I become aware of any acts of terrorism or money laundering and any criminal activity within the interest of public safety. If I needed to make a disclosure I would always try to discuss this with you first.
It is my ethical obligation to undertake monthly clinical supervision, in which I speak to a trained counselling supervisor about the work that I am doing with my clients. This takes place in setting similar to that of the counselling its self and my supervisor abides by the safe confidentiality agreement as I do. The purpose of supervision is to support me in my work with my clients and deepen my understanding of what is happening in the therapeutic relationship so I am able to offer the best care possible.
Record keeping
I keep brief, hand written notes of each session. These notes are for supervision and development purposes and are kept under lock and key at all times. There is no identifiable information on the records and will only be shown if subpoenaed by a court of law. All record keeping is compliant with BACP ethical framework and Data Protection Act 1998.
Code of Ethics
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and as such I abide by their 'ethical framework for good practice in counselling'. A copy of this is available from the BACP website should you want more information.
